State Employees Will ‘Just Serve’ at Carroll Park and Mount Clare Museum House Beautification Event

Date

Approximately 60 state employees from several agencies will volunteer side-by-side for heavy-duty gardening, clearing brush, installing gravel walkways, removing graffiti, and picking-up trash at popular Baltimore City park and historic site.

Baltimore, MD - Each year, Marylanders from across the state join our neighbors in Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C. to participate in Just Serve, a month-long initiative encouraging citizens to choose a day to participate in a volunteer activity in their community. On Wednesday, October 6, between 9:00a.m. – 4:00p.m., approximately 60 volunteers from Maryland Lottery and Gaming, Maryland Stadium Authority, Maryland Energy Administration, Maryland Department of the Environment, Maryland Department of Transportation, Maryland Department of Commerce, and Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives will ‘Just Serve’ at Carroll Park in Baltimore City.

Carroll Park is a popular 117-acre facility in the Pigtown neighborhood that includes a recreation center, picnic pavilion, skate park and golf course plus the Mount Clare Museum House historic site. Mount Clare, a National Historic Landmark, was built by Charles Carroll, Barrister, a distant cousin of the Declaration of Independence signer, Charles Carroll of Carrollton. The National Society of the Colonial Dames in America in the State of Maryland has been the steward of Mount Clare since 1917. The morning and afternoon Just Serve beautification event will focus on the areas around the Mount Clare Museum House. State employees from several agencies will volunteer side-by-side for heavy-duty gardening, clearing brush, installing gravel walkways, removing graffiti, picking-up trash and making the site more welcoming to visitors.

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan encouraged all state employees to participate in Just Serve (formerly Day to Serve). Maryland Lottery and Gaming, Maryland Stadium Authority, Maryland Energy Administration, Maryland Department of the Environment, Maryland Department of Transportation, Maryland Department of Commerce, and Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives are collaborating in this year’s Carroll Park and Mount Clare Museum House Beautification Just Serve Event demonstrating the extraordinary spirit of volunteerism within Maryland state government.

Previous multiple state agencies Just Serve events successfully organized by Maryland Lottery and Gaming with the Maryland Stadium Authority include the 2019 Maryland Vietnam Veterans Memorial Beautification Event in celebration of Maryland’s Year of the Veteran and the 2018 Solo Gibbs Park and Recreation Center Beautification event that included the Baltimore Ravens mascot Poe to kick-off the volunteer activities.
