Maggie McIntosh

Maggie McIntosh first entered the Maryland House of Delegates in 1992 when she was appointed to fill a vacant position in Baltimore’s 42d District. She went on to serve 30 years in the General Assembly, including as the first woman House Majority Leader, Chair of the Environmental Matters Committee, and the first woman Chair of the Appropriations Committee before her retirement in December 2022. Few Baltimoreans have had a bigger impact in Annapolis than she, few have broken as many social barriers, and few have had her influence, as colleague and mentor, to generations of political leaders. Chair Emeritus McIntosh is a former teacher in the Baltimore City Schools and is the recipient of many honors and awards. She led the charge for landmark legislation to improve K-12 public education for all of Maryland’s public schools, for her the most meaningful achievement of her career.
