Baltimore City Public Schools Construction
Frederick Elementary School: 2501 Frederick Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21223
Project Summary: On the west side, Frederick and Samuel F.B. Morse Elementary Schools are less than a half-mile apart, and at the latter, a small student population has the building well below capacity.
With a site more than twice the size of Samuel F.B. Morse’s, the Frederick building can be renovated and expanded to meet the needs of this neighborhood by consolidating the two school communities within a reconfigured school design.
The school’s entry and drive will be more defined, giving access to community areas of media center, cafeteria, and administrative offices for after-school and weekend use.
Meanwhile, new wings will house the gymnasium and classrooms, with a flow that can separate lower and upper grades. The proximity and current low utilization of Samuel F.B. Morse makes that building convenient and available to accommodate Frederick students during any disruptive phases of construction. Once work is complete, Samuel F.B. Morse will close, with students from both schools joining together to benefit from a 21st century learning environment at the renovated Frederick Elementary School.
