Title:  Intern(Project Management / Construction Design and Management)

FLSA Status:  Non-exempt

Hourly Rate:  $11.00

Program:  Baltimore City Public Schools Internship Program (ONLY Open to Baltimore City Public Schools Students)

Duration:  January – June 2018

Student Program Hours:  250-500 / Semester

State Requirement:  Students age 17 and under  must submit a work permit

Closing Date: December 21 2017

 

 

NATURE OF WORK

Student will work closely with highly skilled, professional project managers within the Capital

Projects Development Group. Some of the day-to-day responsibilities include electronic management of procurement documents/files, invoice tracking, and shadowing team members. Student observes and assists as requested by assigned professional. Must be self-motivated, willing to learn, and extremely organized.

 

EXAMPLES OF WORK

•     Complete assignments as indicated in the intern training plan.

•    Assist with drawing & document coordination. This may entail sending drawings to bidders electronically or via FedEx, keeping project documents organized, and distributing documents to all parties involved with a project.

•    Assist in the preparation of submittals, meeting minutes, change orders, bid proposals, etc.

•    Develop and maintain project matrices for document control and the tracking of procurement documents, drawings, and change orders.

•    Assist with drawing & document coordination. This may entail sending drawings to bidders electronically or via FedEx, keeping project documents organized, and distributing documents to all parties involved with a project.

•    Assist in the preparation of submittals, meeting minutes, change orders, bid proposals, etc.

•    Assist in submittal and RFI reviews.

•    Develop and maintain project matrices for document control and the tracking of procurement documents, drawings, anchange orders.•    Perform all assigned tasks thoroughly and completely and only those tasks that are requested by supervisor.

•    Attend design phase and construction progress meetings.

•    Assist in ensuring MBE compliance.

•    Assist in document reviews and reconciliation efforts during each design phase.

•    Assist in ensuring MBE and wage scale compliance.

•    Take photos of existing conditions at each project inside and outside of the Limit oDisturbance (LOD).

•    Take weekly progress photos at each project during construction.

•    Assist in the daily safety and quality inspections during the construction phase of projects.

•    Assist in the verification of work in place values and inspect stored materials to allow for the processing of monthly invoicing.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

•     Knowledge of construction management programs and project tracking software;

•    Ability to estimate;

•    Ability to apply site management skills;

•    Ability to apply planning and scheduling techniques;

•    Ability to follow directions given by his/her supervisor (Project Manager) exactly as requested;

•    Knowledge of construction standards and construction process;

•    Ability to comply with all company/organization and departmental policies and procedures;

•    Experience with Word, Excel, and Google mail; and

•    Ability to adhere to necessary safety rules and regulations.

 

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1.   Environment Work may be performed in a standard office setting with frequent travel to worksite locations to perform project management.  Employee may be required to be present indoors or outdoors in areas of extreme heat or cold.  The noise level of the work environment is usually moderate but may be occasionally loud due to alarms, equipment noise, etc.  Employee may be required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends.

2.   Physical —Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to walk, stand, or sit for prolonged periods of time; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including the use of computer keyboards; to operate a vehicle to travel to various locations; to operate and use specialized equipment; and to verbally communicate to exchange informationWork may also involve.

 

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

(Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the knowledge, skillsand abilities is qualifying).

 

Specific educational and experience requirements are set by this agency based on the essential job functions assigned to the position. Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the knowledge, skills, abilities, and key competencies necessary to the management and operation of a major construction/renovation project is qualifying.
